Brookwood HistoryBrookwood Court Apartments was originally owned by Brookwood Court Associates. Student Lodging, Inc. officially purchased the complex June 29, 1981. Before the purchase, there were numerous fires and the complex became an eye sore of the community. After SLI purchased the apartments, sprinkler systems were installed along with smoke detectors. Student Lodging, Inc. tests all of the fire protection equipment regularly, and all properties up to the most current building codes. Building 15Building 15 was damaged by a fire in 1978 and was later demolished by the former owners, Brookwood Court Associates. Student Lodging, Inc. began reconstructing building 15 in May, 2010 and plan on finishing by August of the same year. Building 18The second building being reconstructed is building 18. This building was reduced from 8 apartments to 4 apartments, by a devastating blaze in early 1981. Half of the building remained structurally sound, and functional. Student Lodging, Inc. later upgraded this building along with all the other buildings when it purchased the complex. Building 18 has been occupied until this past 2010 Commencement. Before demolition of this building began, Millersville Fire Company used the vacant apartment for training of its staff along with other local fire companies. Here is the article from the Millersville Fire Company, detailing the training. |
